ACADEMICS

Three year training programme for MS ophthalmology students who will be trained in clinical ophthalmology and exposed to the latest state of the art surgical procedures that are available in this Super-specialty eye hospital. Under the aegis of Dr Agarwal group of Hospitals who have been in the field of Ophthalmology for the last 78 yrs, the Kreiner College of Ophthalmology has been instituted for the sole purpose of imparting the knowledge and expertise in treating visual threatening disorders that the center has gathered in the last 8 decades of service in eye care.

At the end of three years the student is expected to handle clinical cases single handedly and should have performed at least 150 to 200 surgeries for cataract, glaucoma, squint, extraocular and other minor procedures. A dissertation should be submitted by the student at the end of this term, which will be guided by an in house faculty as well as a visiting faculty member.

TEACHING PROGRAMME

• 9AM TO 1 PM: HANDS ON CLINICAL TRAINING IN OUT PATIENT DEPT
• 2PM TO 4 PM: THEORY, SEMINARS, CASE PRESENTATIONS, JOURNAL CLUB, DEBATE
• 4PM TO 6 PM: SURGICAL TRAINING IN VET LAB
  
  At the end of 3 yrs the candidate is expected to turn in his dissertation/thesis based on ophthalmic clinical or surgical studies.

COMMUNITY OPHTHALMOLOGY

Students will go out on free eye screening camps in rural areas, giving out medication, prescription. Those that require surgery will be brought back to the main hospital where they will be operated upon.

EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES

To facilitate conveyance of ophthalmic expertise and exposure to indigenous ophthalmic diseases, an exchange programme has been arranged wherein the student can opt for a one month training period at the various institutes that we have tied up with internationally renowned institutes like:

• Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida
• UCLA, Los Angeles
• Harvard school of medicine

RESEARCH FACILITIES & TRAINING

As research is important to keep up with the trends in patient care, the R & D Dept is headed by a group of highly energetic and expert research assistants. Various researches are in progress related to refinement of surgical techniques for quicker patient rehabilitation, cell based regenerative therapy, and ocular as well as non-ocular pharmaceuticals. In addition a visiting faculty of internationally renowned scientists have agreed to spend a week at the institute and thereby convey their experiences in the latest biotechnology developments. A research topic will be assigned to each student which should be completed within a span of 6 months. An in house guide as well as a visiting faculty member will guide each student in this endeavour.

FACILITIES

Geared with the latest state of the art equipment from allover the world the hospital has been adjudged a major eye centre by the International Congress of Ophthalmology.
Seven, fully equipped, operating rooms with the latest in eye care surgical-equipment and facilities for general anesthesia. The operation theaters are fitted with latest systems through which the whole surgery is relayed across to the lounges, where the students can watch under the high magnification through closed circuit television.

The latest technology in curing cataracts using lasers and the technique of phakonit and superphakonit can be observed. Laser refractive surgery including Lasik, Epilasik, PRK, PTK with the latest laser station.
