Dr. Raghveer Saran Agarwal

Armed with a degree in medicine and the ambition to create an eye hospital of repute, Dr. Raghveer Saran Agarwal left his hometown of Bulandshahr and came to the big city Delhi. Here he set up his practice in one of the by lanes of the busy central areas of Delhi called Darya Ganj.  His address then was simple enough 15, Darya Ganj, Delhi.  Little did he know that this address would be the foundation stone for future generations of eye surgeons. The son of a farmer he had known the only security lay in tilling the land, however now with a medical degree he wanted to stretch out and lay his life towards the upliftment of human misery through the practices of allopathic medicine

Chairman, Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital Ltd.

Conferred the prestigious "The Life Time Achievement Award"

Dr. Jaivir Agarwal F.I.C.S., D.O.M.S., F.O.R.C.E., honoured with the "Life Time Achievement Award”, by the prestigious All India Ophthalmological Society in the year 2001 and by Tamilnadu Ophthalmic Association in 2002, started his career in ophthalmology in a humble way, way back in 1957. Today, Dr. Jaivir Agarwal stands tall as the chairman of the coveted Dr.Agarwal's eye hospital - the only hospital in the world, built in the shape of an eye, listed as a Major Eye Centre of the World by the International congress of ophthalmology and has found a place in the Ripley's Believe it or not.

He was able to bring about Custom Duty Exemption for Sight Saving Instruments by the Govt. of India in 1988 and this saw a new horizon emerging on the scenario of Indian Ophthalmology. Now our eye surgeons implant lenses without having to pay the duty for microscopes, IOLs, lasers and other sight saving equipment. This Custom Duty Exemption was not given to any other branch of Medicine.

Dr. Agarwal epitomises dedication and devotion and his heart for the poor brethren, is unparallelled. He has carved a niche for himself by establishing an organisation called Eye Research Centre in 1978, through which he has done yeoman service for the rural poor blind. His thirst towards the eradication of blindness has virtually blinded him to everything but ophthalmology.

He was the president of All India Ophthalmological Society during it's golden jubilee year in 1992.

Not liking to limit himself only with treatment, he widened his horizon by sharing his and other stalwart's knowledge with the fellow doctors by conducting various education and CME programs. He has conducted many conferences not only in India but also abroad. Infact he was the man behind the legendary meeting of 6th Afro Asian Congress of Ophthalmology in 1976.

Special mention has to be made of his association with Dr. Hudson Silva and Sri Lanka Eye Bank which goes back to early 70's. He was one of the earliest to receive eyes from Colombo. He was also one of the first to propagate eye donation in India in a big way.
